Why would my great friend Dori ask me to help him out and not think I would make it about me?
Dori Oskowitz is directing a new T-Mobile commercial and he couldn’t make it to the call backs. He called me up to ask if I could do him a “solid” and hold the audition for him.
After finding out that I was going to be asking Hispanic Martial Artists to perform a series of kicks and punches for me I immediately went to Gary’s room. I told him the great news and he replied, “I have a ninja outfit in my closet.”
So, I brought Gary to the audition with me as my “Ninja Consultant.” He sat in the chair next to me dressed as a ninja and whispered in my ear whilst these men created martial art.
At one point I began to feel bad. This because, I went into the waiting room and one of the actors was visibly nervous. I told him to wait. I went back into the room, looked at Gary and said, “You gotta take that hood off dude.”
He gave me a look that I will not soon forget, as he felt I was failing us both. But, shit.
Gary took off the hood and the next few gentlemen kicked and punched and kicked and punched. At which point we found ourselves with an hour inbetween the next actor…. So I had Gary jump in front of the camera and run through all of the things that they have been doing with the intention of submitting him along with the other actors (thus his last name). The 45 minutes of tape on him did not help me submit it on time. But here he is… Gary Guntlove. as Gary Gutierrez
